Loyalty Card - Solution

Tea bags had been purchased and yet the only box of tea bags was half empty. Detective Adams believes Steven killed Michael at lunch and stole his loyalty card, using it to buy a few things later in the day to provide an alibi.

Not Convenient at All

Meredith Henshaw was surprised to see the man behind the counter when she entered the convenience store expecting to see her friend Denise. If it came as any consolation, the man seemed just as shocked.

"I'm sorry if I interrupted your train of thought. Where's Denise?" The man looked so uncomfortable that he had to be new. Poor Denise. She hated having to train people because of how it made the time drag.

"Denise went home sick. The manager asked me to cover. I'm new but there wasn't anybody else." Meredith wasn't surprised that she didn't recognize him since turnover at the store was unbelievable. Denise said she'd become the senior clerk within three months of starting.

Meredith sighed. This was very inconvenient. Denise had asked Meredith to stop by the vegetarian store near her office to pick up some staples on her way home today since Denise couldn't get there during store hours.

Now that it appeared that Meredith was taking a trip to Denise's apartment, dinner was going to be even later than she first thought which meant a grumble-fest at the table. Thomas and the boys could only fend for themselves when required to do nothing more than open a bag of potato chips.

Meredith glanced down at the shopping bags hanging from each hand before remembering that her friend had gone home sick. "What happened? Is Denise all right?"

The clerk nodded towards some dry and blistered hot dogs rolling in a warmer on a counter. They looked as though they'd already been there longer than intended if not from the day the store first opened. "The manager said Denise wolfed down a few too many of those."

"But is she okay? Did she go to the hospital?"

He shrugged. "I didn't talk to her. The manager just told me she went home sick. There's no reason for you to wait here. I didn't get the idea she was coming back today."

"I'm not waiting for her. I'm just trying to figure out what to do. There's little point bringing these groceries to her apartment if she's sitting in the hospital emergency room. Was Denise able to drive when she left?"

The clerk licked his lips. "I don't know."

Meredith turned to see through the front windows. "There's her car right there. Either she called a taxi or an ambulance."

"Why don't you just go to the hospital and check?"

"Because she lives in the opposite direction and I really would like to get home before my husband orders pizza."

The man nearly groaned when two teenage girls came into the store.

Meredith almost laughed. There was no question that times changed and nowhere so fast as in teen fashion. Or lack thereof. Didn't these youngsters know that green hair clashed with
